Creating a Healthier Society Through Self-Expression

About Us

Write Here offers business and creative writing workshops locally in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area and nationwide through teleclasses. Owner Carol Sweet is also a writing coach, offering encouragement and support to writers by phone or online.

A certified instructor of English As a Second Language, Carol teaches non-native English speaking employees of companies who provide this program.

Creative Writing Services and Business Services

Since Ira Progoff’s Intensive Journal WorkshopTM debuted in 1966, a number of studies have concluded that expressing oneself in writing produces both physical and mental health benefits. Creative self-expression is a need almost as basic as food and water. Yet many who wish to express themselves through writing have been stifled by criticism or their own insecurities. Write Here promotes a healthier society by helping writers overcome obstacles to their creativity through creative writing workshops and one-on-one coaching for writers.

WRITE HERE WORKSHOPS

“Everybody is talented, original and has something important to say…” So says Brenda Ueland, author of the classic on writing and the creative process, If You Want to Write. You, too, have something important to say, but sometimes you need a little push, encouragement, or simply the time and a place to begin. Write Here is that place. We invite you to come in, sit down and tell us your story.

Beginners and accomplished writers alike are welcome. Writers at all levels find inspiration and practical tips to strengthen their craft and increase their productivity. Workshop topics range from breaking through writer’s block to fine tuning your work.

Workshops currently being offered include:

• Busting Down the Barn Door – breaking out of writer’s block

• Life’s Journey – write your life story

• Immigrant, Tell us Your Story – creative writing for ESL students

• Spirituality through Creative Writing

• Journaling for Health and Self-Discovery

• Write Here, Where You Are – create a sense of place in your writing

• Sensual Writing – enrich your writing and engage your reader by appealing to the senses

• Elements of Fiction ¬– each session focuses on one element (character development, plot, theme, etc.)

Dates and locations of workshops can be found on our website at www.writeherepdx.net. For those who live outside the Portland area, workshops may be conducted by “teleclass.” Call or e-mail for more information. New workshops are always being developed and added to the list, so be sure to check our website often for the latest offerings and other helpful information.

COACHING

Carol is a motivational, structured and supportive coach who will keep writers moving forward in their writing. Whether you’re working on a book or just need encouragement to pick up the pen and start, Carol will keep you connected to your work and your muse.

BUSINESS WRITING WORKSHOPS

Written communications often represent the first, and sometimes the only, opportunity your company will have to make a good impression. Even internal communications reflect the quality of the organization, assuring employees that their talents are invested well. Correspondence, reports, proposals, promotional materials and every other form of communication, whether internal or external, should demonstrate the company’s dedication to providing quality work. Clear, concise communications convey competence and inspire confidence. Write Here Business Writing Workshops will give your employees the tools they need to communicate clearly and professionally.

ESL FOR EMPLOYEES

With an increasingly diverse workforce, investing in English as a Second Language classes specifically designed for workplace communications can pay off many times over. Providing employees whose first language is not English an opportunity to communicate more clearly creates increased job satisfaction, a more efficient work environment and better customer relations. A happier workforce means reduced costs associated with turnover. Class content is customized specifically for your business.
